Nouns are words that name people, places, things, or ideas. They can be classified into different types based on their usage and meaning:
Abstract vs. Concrete Nouns:
- Abstract Nouns: Represent intangible ideas, qualities, or states that cannot be perceived by the senses.
- Example: love, freedom, happiness.
- Concrete Nouns: Represent physical objects that can be experienced through the senses.
- Example: table, music, flower.
Collective Nouns:
- Refer to a group of people, animals, or things considered as a single unit.
- Example: team, flock, class.
Common vs. Proper Nouns:
- Common Nouns: General names for people, places, or things; not capitalized unless they start a sentence.
- Example: city, teacher, building.
- Proper Nouns: Specific names for particular people, places, or things; always capitalized.
- Example: New York, Albert Einstein, Eiffel Tower.
